Christmas Shoebox Appeal

December 10, 2020 - Stefan Fura

Our blog is for your general interest. Whether or not it applies to your current financial position, please feel free to share it with friends, family, or colleagues who may be interested.

As the colder nights and freezing mornings take hold, the majority of us are lucky enough to wake up in a warm, comfy bed after a good nights sleep and start the day up with a hot cup of what you fancy.

Sadly, for some, it’s a luxury.

In the UK, more than 280,000* people are currently classed as homeless with that number increasing all the time as the true impact of Covid rears its ugly head. On top of that, thousands of people have had to flee the safety of their homes during lockdown to avoid abuse and hundreds of thousands haven’t been able to access or afford hot meals for themselves or their families.

Those who do not have safety net of the support network that so many of us take for granted are becoming increasingly helpless.

However, there are a number of charities out there who are going above and beyond to help those suffering in our local community. A number of them were recognised at our awards ceremony on 24th November.

Having recognised them, we want to support them; to help our sustain and support our community and to look after those who require our care. But we can’t do that without your support.

So, as a friend and supporter of the Furnley House Foundation, we have a favour to ask in the run up to Christmas: Please support the winner of Charity of the Year, the Midland Langar Seva Society by donating a shoebox of gifts for people who need their help to get through Winter.

Some of you will know that we moved office at the beginning of the year and due to COVID-19 all of our staff are now working from home. As a result, we’re donating some of our office space for use as a drop off point for anyone that wants to donate any of the items listed above. Our donation station will be open from 14th to the 17th December, between 9am and 5pm. Our office address is Furnley House, 340 Melton Road, Leicester, LE4 7SL and we have parking onsite.

If you can’t make it to our offices, a couple of the Trustees and friends of the Furnley House Foundation have also offered their offices for you to make your donations. They all have slightly different dates and times, so please make sure to double check before making your donation.
