Congratulations are in order for Steve Collier, who has achieved his STEP Certificate for Financial Services, Trusts and Estate Planning, with Merit.
What is a STEP Qualification?
STEP (the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners) is the international professional body for advisers who specialise in inheritance and succession planning.
The STEP Certificate for Financial Services, Trusts and Estate Planning, focuses on the common ground between solicitors and financial advisers. To pass, Steve had to show his knowledge of how solicitors work, particularly while dealing with Inheritance Tax, Trusts and Estates Planning. He had to show his expertise about how financial planners and solicitors can best work together with an integrated approach to suit a client’s needs. Steve also demonstrated his understanding of the legal, tax and investment issues which overlap with estate planning.
To achieve this qualification, Steve took part in a four-month course before a tough 5-hour exam.

What Steve had to say:
Steve Collier explains
‘As an adviser, I’ve taken many exams before but this one was one of the toughest and longest I’ve done so I’m very pleased to have passed with Merit.’
‘It means I’m now in a more rounded position when it comes to Inheritance Tax and Estate Planning, which will benefit my clients if they need advice in this area. It’s also a qualification many professional connections, such as solicitors, will recognise and I’m now looking to apply to become a STEP affiliate.’
