The Furnley House Foundation was created to improve the lives of as many people as possible within our community. Usually, we hold a number of events to help us bring the community together and raise over £40,000 each year for charities and not for profits.
The year so far
We hosted a well-supported quiz night at the beginning of the year for around 80 people in our offices, which raised over £2000 for the Foundation.
After the pandemic started, we raised £3000 to help create and cover the costs of discharge packs for the Leicester Hospitals Charity for those leaving hospital when we were in Lockdown. These special packs contained refreshments and comfort items to help ease patients back into their everyday lives.
Simon Winfield, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, along with board member Stefan Fura and John Woolhouse from Furnley House volunteered to help pack the boxes. This really hit home the help that people across Leicester and Leicestershire require and how the Foundation can continue to make a difference.
The Leicestershire Community Champions Awards
Sadly, the Covid-19 situation has forced us to postpone the rest of our planned events, including our flagship Summer Ball, and we’re gutted to have to do so. The pandemic has impacted everyone but there have still been people and organisations who have brought hope and positivity to our local communities and have made a huge difference to local people’s lives.
We didn’t want to sit back and wait for things to calm down, or let all those amazing groups and individuals who have gone above and beyond go unrecognised, so the Trustees of the Furnley House Foundation have decided to start the Leicestershire Community Champions Awards. We’ll be partnering with Voluntary Action LeicesterShire (VAL), a charity that helps people in local communities through direct service delivery and by supporting the local voluntary and community sector.
It’ll be our first virtual event and will be held on Tuesday 24th November, when we’ll be highlighting those that have gone above and beyond since March 2020.
If you are or know a local hero or organisation that has done something extraordinary, the Leicestershire Community Champions Awards 2020 are a great opportunity to recognise them and shout about the amazing things they have done.
The Awards night itself will be available to watch via Zoom, with tickets available from here.
Nominations are now open until the 28th September. To see the categories or to find out more, please visit our website www.lccawards.co.uk
