Furnley House are about to celebrate their fifth birthday by giving back and helping out in the Community by supporting Alex’s Wish, which was set up with the aim of eradicating Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.
What is Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy?
Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. is a serious muscle-wasting disease affecting 1 in every 3,500 boys born. Those affected are wheelchair bound in early teens and completely paralysed by late teens. It is 100% fatal and children will not live beyond their twenties. Currently, there is no cure or effective treatments that will help all children at present. A medical breakthrough is imminent but more funding is desperately needed.
Why Alex’s Wish?
Furnley House often get involved in local charitable events helping to spread the word and raise awareness and funds for causes close to our heart. Richard Burrows, Director, said “It is impossible to listen to Emma and the story behind Alex’s Wish without being moved and, as a team, we decided to make them our Charity of the Year for 2018. They also turn five years old this year so we thought there was an additional great synergy between us! Our overarching goal is to make a difference in our local communities and we are excited to roll our sleeves up and get involved. We would welcome the support of any other businesses or indeed anyone else in our efforts!”.
Emma Hallam, founder of Alex’s Wish, added “Supporters like Furnley House are hugely important to Alex’s Wish and they join a growing number of local companies who are committed to helping us raise vital funds to help find treatments and a cure for the crippling and life-limiting disease that is Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. The team at Furnley House are already talking about their plans which are likely to include inviting their clients and professional connections to a Summer Ball as well as taking part in some established and organised sporting events and challenges – possibly a bake-off too! I’m so looking forward to working with them and want to thank the whole team for getting behind us. Without supporters like Furnley House we would be hard pressed to do what we do and make a difference to boys suffering with Duchenne.”
