Overview and Job Purpose

Furnley House aims to help their clients live their dreams and the role of a Paraplanner is to use technical knowledge and expertise to provide detailed and accurate information to Furnley House Financial Advisers to help them deliver timely and relevant information to clients.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

To provide relevant, detailed advice to our Financial Advisers to ensure that our clients receive the best investment advice relative to their requirements.

To prepare suitability letters and provide technical support to complex client queries.

Undertake fund research and analysis.

Technical product research and solution provision.

Keeping up to date with legislative changes and working closely with Compliance to ensure changes are embedded.

The role will also include assisting various departments within the business to ensure a smooth and consistent client journey.

Proven experience as a Paraplanner – Ideally 2 years minimum

Proficient in MS Office, with working knowledge of CRM Platforms (e.g. Intelligent Office)

Skills Required

Analytical skills.

Able to undertake detailed analysis of complicated financial data and to prepare and present accurate and understandable reports and recommendations for colleagues and clients.

Financial/ Investment skills.

Able to demonstrate a detailed understanding of current investment market place and aware of trends and developing patterns. Able to show detailed understanding of current regulatory/legal framework.

Communication skills.

An effective communicator able to interact and work with a wide variety of people both internally and externally and at different levels. Good listening skills able to accurately understand client requirements to ensure that information and recommendations accurately meet client needs.


Highly numerate, able to interpret and understand complicated investment plans to make accurate recommendations based on sound numerical assessment.

Customer Service.

Must demonstrate client focused approach to all aspects of work. Must live with the knowledge and understanding that the client always comes first.

Technical/Financial Knowledge.

Able to demonstrate a broad range of technical/industry knowledge. Ideally started the diploma qualification. All qualifications maintained and updates completed.

Communication Skills.

Must be an effective communicator, with the ability to adapt communication style and approach to suit different audiences.
Able to establish credibility and rapport quickly and be able to collaborate constructively across the organisation and externally where necessary.

Attention to Detail.

Must possess a passion for detail and accuracy. Passionate about presenting and communicating detailed technical information which does not contain mistakes.

System and Processes.

Must be able to demonstrate an understanding and experience of using a variety of different systems and processes. Able to adapt quickly to new systems as required.

Organisation Skills.

Must be able to organise and prioritise their own workload effectively and to understand the difference between important tasks and urgent ones. Able to manage priorities of own and others whilst meeting and controlling expectations.

Problem Solving.

Able to use a systematic approach to solving problems  through analysis of problem and evaluation of a variety of possible solutions using logic, mathematics or other tools as required.

Gathering and interpreting technical Information.

Able to understand how to source relevant information on a variety of different technical topics and then to interpret it to present it in simple and easy to understand format for clients.
